How has US foreign policy towards the Middle East changed during the Obama Administration?

Research question: Has Obama”s lack of a foreign policy doctrine on the Middle East diminished US power and influence in the region.
Hypothesis: An unclear Obama doctrine did not help in building US influence in the region but an over aggressive Bush doctrine combined with unanticipated events such as Arab Spring and growth of ISIS made any attempts create a consistent policy unlikely.
