Assignment 2: Instructions for all topics

 You must use the same topic for Assignment 1 and 2 both.  NO REQUESTS for change of topics will be considered, and any random changes will get no marks for the second assignment.

 Write an essay providing a much more detailed analysis/overview of your topic.  The assignment must be 1200-1400 words long, excluding Figures, Tables, legends and the list of references.

 The essay MUST use at least 5 publications, published during 2005-2016.  You should already have these from your assignment 1.  Of these, at least 4 must be journal articles and one can be a book or book chapter, or all 5 can be journal articles. You can use any number of additional reference for the 2nd assignment. The additional references (beyond the above 5) can be pre-2005 and can include more journal papers, reviews, book chapters, but not ‘letters to the editor’ or just the abstracts of papers or conferences or general websites.  Please do not use or list Wikipedia or Google etc. as references!  These types of sources can be used to get some basic information, but are not a reference themselves.  Also note the length of the reference list by itself does not get marks!  The depth, clarity, presentation, and overall quality of authorship are important.  Too many references often leads to repetitive information and just skimming over things, so it is recommended that you keep the reading to moderate levels (5-10 references).

 All statements/facts in the essay must be supported by giving correct references at all appropriate places within the essay, not just a list in the end.  Do not give an article as a reference unless you have actually read it yourself.  The referencing within the body (text) of the essay should be by authors’ names (e.g., Ivanova et al., 2005; Bhave and Palombo, 2006; Bhave 2006), not numbers.

 You may use figures and tables from published sources or redraw your own based on these, but you must provide their reference details in the legends or footnotes.

 COMPLETE bibliographic details of all references must be provided in a list of references at the end of the assignment.  The kind of bibliographic information required for journal articles and book chapters is different (see below).  Also please check the examples given below.

o For journal articles: title of article, names of all authors, journal, volume, page numbers.  o For books and book chapters: title of chapter, all authors, chapter number, the title of the book that contains this chapter, editors, place and year of publication, ISBN, page numbers.  o For websites: if the publication is only from a website and not journal or book, provide the full hyperlink that will take the reader straight to the source.  Do not provide websites for journal articles that can be accessed through SUT library website and do not use or list

 

Wikipedia or Google etc. as references!  These types of sources can be used to get some basic information, but are not a reference themselves.   o The referencing list must follow one consistent format.  You can base this on any journal article you have used, but stick to it for listing all references.   o Significant penalties will apply, including a zero mark, if the assessor cannot find a reference, and/or it is incorrect or incomplete in any way, and/or the style in the list is inconsistent.  You may also be asked to supply the copies of your reference articles.
