Technology’s Impact on Education

 

INTRO:

 

Technology has had a huge impact on how we educate ourselves, and I’d like to show what I’ve learned about some of the effects it has had both positive and negative.

 

 

IDEA 1

 

Positive impacts technology has had on our way of educating.

 

Supporting Details

It has given all types of learners (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) different tools to use.

 

People in isolated areas who might not otherwise be able to attend school are given the opportunity.

 

It’s convenient and ideal for people with busy schedules to pursue a higher level of education.

 

IDEA 2

What some of the drawbacks are to online or digital learning.

 

Supporting Details

How can it affect a students “people skills” if they aren’t required to interact with people.

 

Not everyone is “tech savvy” and using computers or other technology can tend to cause frustration, thus they might prefer more traditional methods.

 

Computers, and other tech we might use can be expensive, and not feasible for some.

CONCLUSION

This paper is going to outline some of the pros and cons of technology in the classroom, and how it is affecting the modern day student.

• What is the site about?

 

This website provides good articles on trends taking place in the education field, and has numerous articles on technological advances that are affecting teachers and students alike.

 

 

 

• What information did you find about your topic that is important

 

I found one article on the site in particular that gave me some interesting information about some schools who are embracing newer tech-savvy ways of educating students. It showed how that has affected their graduation rate, and ways they are even trying to increase the rate by using computers and online courses. • What is the book about?

 

This book covers a lot of information on technology’s growing involvement in education and how realistic some of the new ideas coming out might or might not be. It talks about “re-engineering” our educational practices to accommodate new methods that newer tech would allow us to use in everything from K-12, to higher levels of schooling such as the college and university level.

 

 

 

• What information did you find that is important for your topic?

 

This book has a lot of perspectives on my topic that I had not thought of when I began researching for my final project. I came across it pretty randomly while I was looking for sources to support my topic, but after I started grazing over it I found a lot of useful information on the feasibility of some of the educational opportunities that newer technology tries to advertise which helped me a lot when coming up with the pros and cons of technology in the classroom.

• What is the article about?

 

This article is about a study that was done on 146 undergraduate students between the ages of 18 and 24 enrolled at a large, Midwestern university. The study observed students’ abilities to retain by having them participate in a traditional lecture, a slideshow lecture, as well as a virtual learning environment. The students were given a pre-test and post-test in each scenario, to see which one was the most effective at helping students retain the most information. The students were also assessed on their frustration levels through each scenario so not only was each method measured by its effectiveness but also how much stress they caused on the student.

 

 

 

• What information did you find that is important for your topic?

 

This article was very helpful to me because it showed me a comparison between traditional education methods and methods using a technology-friendly approach which will help me explain the benefits of technology and disadvantages. It also gave me information about which method most students prefer based off stress, or frustration levels that were caused by each different scenario. I wanted to present some research in my project as well so this article provided me with exactly what I needed in order to do that.

This website is catered to teachers who work with K-12 students. It provides them with tips, resources, and news articles related to their jobs. It has a lot of articles and blogs by teachers for teachers discussing current events in their field and how it affects their job.

 

 

 

 

• What information did you find that is important for your topic?

 

I found some really great examples of how exactly technology has affected the classroom experience, and wanted to share them in my final project. Some of these examples included how technology could make certain materials such as 3-ring binders nearly obsolete in the classroom, and how much the use of the internet can bring education to people in more isolated areas.
