Part One –

Situate your book and author in their context. Answer questions such as:

  • Who is the author and what is her background?
  • Why was it important for her to write this book?
  • How does she relate to her Christian faith?
  • In what ways does she contribute to the Christian tradition?
  • How does her location/time period/ experience affect the narrative? (the history question)
  • Who is her audience? Does the reader need to be a person of faith? Do they need to have a lot of background information to understand the narrative? Could they be convinced by the narrative? In what ways does the author work to convince her reader or explain her situation?
  • What are some focal points of the narrative? What makes her story unique?
  • Does the narrative compare in any way to the lives of the saints we have read in class?
  • What does the author reveal about being a woman?
  • What does this author reveal about being a Christian?

Part Two-

Detail the chapter 6,7,8. (pp.34-pp.60). Be sure to include:

  • What moment(s) were significant issues/ turning points/ problems for the author? (Does this part include a major event or life decision?)
  • What conclusions or decisions does she reach?
  • How is her experience affected because she is a woman?
  • What makes her narrative unique?
  • In what ways does this event/section place her in the Christian tradition?

Finally, add a sentence or two about your opinion. Did you enjoy the book or not, and in what ways? How did the book make you reflect or think about your own life, surroundings, etc.
