each question should be sufficient) and these questions come from a large test question pool created specifically forthis unit and current case/vignettes, so you will not be sitting the same or even similar test as your peers. In any case, topreserve the integrity of this assessment task DO NOT discuss the test after you have done it with anyone (includingbut not limited to your team, class and assessors) until after the test week concludes. For that reason, there are noclasses scheduled in the week of the test.3. Innovation Focus Company: Innovation Report – worth 50%This assessment is to be completed individually. An invited guest innovator will begin your research/investigation witha presentation to you about the company, its business model, strategies and historical milestones (with commercialconfidentiality considerations of course). This case has been selected as the focal case of interest for you to create adetailed report addressing issues of importance to the commercialisation of the IP in question. Theinformation provided to you by the guest and materials already available in Blackboard will form the basisfor developing your own further investigations. Basically, you are required to augment the supplied content withyour own new relevant research (your 20 new references). The word count requirement for the report is 2,500words (+/- 10%), not including the words spoken in the video summary or the reference list or table of contents. Thesereports are submitted ONLY to Turnitin and must have an embedded link to a video introduction you create, whichreplaces the executive summary within your report. This video summary is uploaded via Echo 360 within theblackboard ilecture environment and the link that is produced is then inserted in the first page of your report directlyunder the “Executive Summary” heading. More direction on the report focus is only given after the guest haspresented as the commercialisation journey of each guest innovator is dynamic and unique.Report purposeFirst, you need to show you fully understand the history of the case and how it relates to the core content of yourtextbook. Then (more importantly) you need to identify where external commercialisation (innovation &entrepreneurship focus) literature might explain or critique past decisions or actions, current strategies orchallenges and future direction and strategy. To provide a framework, you should consider each of thefive components of the CIM and choose to focus where the emerging and seminal literature may best showcase yourknowledge of commercialisation in this case specific context. A great report will be one where your examiner isconfident you understand the case, the theory (in textbook and articles used) and have considered the dynamicnature of the 4 quadrants of the CIM framework to make some smart recommendations informed not by opinion, butby the literature and research you selected. If you do that well, then it is likely you will impress our guest (perhaps the5th component of the CIM?), so we will show them your report (it follows you would probably get a HD). The firstthing they will want to do is watch your exec summary video, so don’t forget to pack in enough keynote information toentice a full read after they watch the video, in a creative way (since there are creativity marks allocated in the rubric),but do stay professional in demeanour and always deliver in writing what you promise in the video.Report StructureYou should aim to create something of a professional standard of presentation which you would be proud to show tothe company, since it is the intention for some of the best reports (and intro videos) to be made available to thecompany. The report is to follow the Curtin Chicago referencing style and should contain a minimum of20 references, balanced between scholarly (peer reviewed journals) and other trustworthy industry-relevant and currentsources. The report will have a number of components (report style numbering and page numbering please), which are:1. Executive Summary (5% of wordcount) but worth a LOT more to your overall gradel This means no more than 125 impactful words, of course this is not enough to do your report justice, that’swhy your video summary is so important.l This section INCLUDES an embedded web link (i.e. we can click on it and reach your video intro) to your selfrecorded video summary. There is no wordcount for the video, just keep it creative, succinct andenticing (3 minutes is ideal).2. Company Profile & Background (10% of wordcount) but worth more to your overall grade and impressionleft on the readerl This is where you demonstrate you understand the full history of the case. Include a pictoral timeline (an imagein a timeline graphic, not a table/list of dates and text) of key events here that influenced the invention andcompany formation from initial IP/idea through to the present day. Since it is pictoral, it really needs littlewordcount to do it justice (since, as the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words!).3. Key Challenges for Commercialising this Business (15% of wordcount)l This section describes what is known about current situation, using the CIM model components as aframework and ensuring coverage of IP strategy, collaborations, networks, business model, corecompetency/value and will include an external economic industry/sector foresight. Innovation Concepts Applied: Where theory meets practice.(60% of wordcount)l This is where the bulk of your new references and thinking will reside. To allow depth of analysis/articlesynthesis, you should identify a few (2-3) key areas that you consider most relevant to the case for focus. Thismeans finding information wherever possible which is focused on the same geographic markets, the sameproduct categories, the same economic circumstances and that is up-to-date.l You are NOT required to cover all topics in the text book, so focus your attention for a best fit with the case andon two or three concepts you consider of greatest importance for the company and case. These areas (andhence your literature selection) will be determined by the particular case each semester but TEND (because ourcompanies examined are relatively small and new) to be focussed upon growing market awareness andcompany reach/size into global opportunities/markets. However, there is also scope to critique the foundationsof the business and strategy, so don’t overlook changes to IP strategy, Business Model, Brand, ServiceInnovation and incremental NPD, or even open innovation for incremental CIM changes.l Perhaps the only areas unlikely to yield much useful information or guidance would be related to technologytransfer since that is the story of Curtin as the IP generator for these inventions, not of the technology companyspinoffs that we observe.l It is also outside scope to expect any new inventions to be part of your report, so steer clear of any new IPsuggestions (such as portfolio/platform extension plans), such proposal are just too far along the lifecycle forthese technology start-ups.5. Conclusion and recommendations (10 % of wordcount)l Only make recommendations which relate specifically to the core messages and findings of the literature youcite, aim for quality not quantity!l Don’t waste your wordcount on long empty concluding paragraphs that simply rephrase the casestory/challenges.l You are conveying how your literature would be useful to them here, so it is an important component, especially given the executive summary is in video format this is the main place where a reader within the caseecosystem will have it reinforced why the content of your report is relevant and important to them.6. Reference List, sorted into alpha order and hyperlinked where appropriate (URLs for website reports etc, nothyperlinks to your journal refs).7. Index of exhibits, not submitted to turnitin please ( as that would create too many text matches in yourturnitin report).l Details related to your video hyperlinked content (such as a description of your Echo 360 student uploadedvideo)l Small embedded pdf exhibits and images that you refer to (but often these are better reproduced as an imagein-text if important references that you discuss)l Any other digital exhibits (be mindful of file upload limits and restrain yourself to ONE File only of a maximumof ten megabytes (entire assessment). Some other content of the report is also not to be included in the word count, such as: tables of contents, tables offigures, headings etc. Also not included are cover pages, and any interview transcripts or ‘cut and paste’ information ofa direct citation nature (ensure you adequately reference ALL direct cites).Show the following word count reporting format on your cover page. Here’s an example of what it might look like:Total file word count 4435Less direct quotes 850Less tables of content 400Less reference lists 450Total net word count 2735 (acceptable range is 2250-2750)Please refer to the “Assessment” link on Blackboard for the marking criteria. Remember, a hard copy of yourassignment is not required. Your written report must be submitted to Turnitin with the video summary componentuploaded as an iLecture using the Echo 360 Upload App. The report should be created using MSWord Turnitin compatible docx (or pdf equivalent) and follow the naming convention: “, 20xx MOI”. This is necessary to ensure your files are uniquely identifiable and don’t getcorrupted/lost during upload. Make sure (by testing) all links in your uploaded file work to reach the URLintended. You should always make back-up copies of your work and keep them available until after your assessmenthas been confirmed.Faculty of Business and Law ᄞSchool of ManagementᄞMGMT3007 Management of InnovationBentley Campus20 Feb 2021School of Management, Faculty of Business and LawPage: 7 of 16CRICOS Provider Code 00301JThe only authoritative version of this Unit Outline is to be found online in OASIS
