Alright you start with a primary or secondary alcohol and you are getting an alkyl chloride.

Start with a primary alcohol, you use SOCl2/ether and you get a chlorosulifite as an intermediate, then (SN2) reaction, you get an alkyl chloride + So2+ cl-.
