Essays develop and test a student’s ability to assess information, formulate arguments and critically evaluate sources and different alternatives to issues and problems.

Instructions

Students may choose from one of the following topics or develop a topic in agreement with the lecturer.

A. The role of the leader in the practice of good governance and social responsibility in a publically or privately held company. What role does the leader play in setting and influencing corporate social responsibility? 
B. Describe and discuss the concept of corporate social responsibility, its development, and the context in which it operates. 
C. The sole duty of a chief executive officer is to maximise the wealth of his/her shareholders. Discuss with reference to corporate social responsibility. 
D. The accumulation of greenhouse gasses and global warming has made environmental sustainability a key issue in corporate social responsibility. Critically evaluate the sustainability policies of QANTAS. 
E. Starbucks has adopted an “ethical sourcing” which establishes standards that must be met by the company’s suppliers. Evaluate the extent to which the adoption of the code is consistent with the objectives of the company. 
F The senior management of Apple, Google and Microsoft have been called to account for their tax minimisation strategies at a Senate enquiry. Should international companies be morally obliged to pay a fair proportion of tax on profits earned in Australia?
