Essay: You are required to write an essay on a topic of interest that has arisen from the reading you have done in this subject. The essay should be 3,500 words in length. Ideally the essay will provide an interpretive, analytical, critical review of the relevant literature.
Requirements
- Identify one major theme or topic of interest and provide a clear description of the theme or topic of interest.
- Present a brief overview of the concepts of educational leadership and teams. Use relevant readings to further examine the concepts as they relate to your chosen topic.
- Utilising further readings that you have located yourself, explore the theme or topic of interest.
- Provide a synthesis and critique of the theory base for this topic.
- Conclude your essay with some explicit recommendations for future practice in your theme or topic of interest. These recommendations should follow from the critique you have made in your essay.
Hurdle Requirements
- The essay has a title that clearly identifies the theme or topic
- Student name and number are on every page of the essay
- Pages have been numbered
- Text is left justified
- Font is clear and the equivalent of 12 pt Times New Roman
- Proper referencing is attempted, and is in APA 6 style.
Grading Criteria and Feedback
Assessment criteria
- Hurdle requirements have been met;
- Provision of a clear scoping statement of the contents of the essay in an introduction;
- Identification of a theme or topic of interest;
- Overview and discussion of the concepts of leadership and teams with clear links to the chosen theme or topic of interest;
- Exploration of the theme or topic that utilises literature within and beyond that provided; examples provided;
- Synthesis and critique of the theory base;
- Recommendations are feasible and demonstrate insight and analysis;
- In text citations are correct, a References list is provided and both are inthe required academic style (APA 6).

- An ability to conceptualise and to link the theoretical concepts addressed with topic area;
- An original analysis of the topic and related material;

- An exceptional command of expression, argument and structure.
