Chapman was obsessed with the book and he identified himself strongly as Holden Caulfield, he even requested the state attorney general to change his name to Holden Caulfield. After being arrested by the police. He took out his copy of The Catcher in the Rye, and wrote “This is my Statement”, then he signed Holden’s name in the book. At his trial, he read aloud one of the passages in the book . There are many hypotheses as to why Mark Chapman Killed John Lennon.
