Thematic units of instruction organize instruction around themes, rather than solely by topic or content. Teachers need to design instruction that includes reading as a crucial component of curriculum instruction and that ensures the consequences of reading are important as well as interesting (Richardson, 2000). With that in mind, write a paper around a thematic unit incorporating literature –fiction and non-fiction that is aligned to a specific topic or theme.
Use the following outline for the paper. Please single space this document and include an APA formatted reference page. The paper should be at least five pages including the reference page.
Identify and describe the concept of a thematic unit in the curriculum. What is a thematic unit? (One – two paragraphs) 8 points
Identify and describe objectives of your specific thematic unit. Tell the topic and explain. Concepts to be learned should be clearly stated. (One – two paragraphs) 7 points
List and briefly describe specific books that will be incorporated (at least 4 books) 20 points (fiction, non-fiction, informational)

List and briefly describe other resources (at least 2) 10 points
(Internet resources)

List and briefly describe related literature, poems, articles, etc. (at least two). 10 points
(newspapers, magazines, journals, videos, movies)

Describe an initiating activity for the thematic unit. (one paragraph). 5 points
Describe two general strategies aligning with the thematic unit. (comprehension, vocabulary, writing) 10 points
