The sentencelevel speaking outline is like a script. I say like a script because a script is a document thatcontains exactly what a person will say—verbatim. A script is a word for word representationof what is to be said. A sentence-level speaking outline is a sketch or blueprint for what you are goingto say. You will develop your sentence-level outline as a means of helping decide what you are goingto say. You will not be able to present a good presentation without a good sentence-level speakingoutline. The level of detail, that is the number of main points, sub points, sub-sub points is dependentupon the complexity of the information that you are presenting. In addition to assist you in developing your presentation, this outline provides the framework for youto create your ‘speaking’ notes. The speaking notes, also sometimes called palm cards, consist of wordsand sometimes direct quotations, that you use when you are presenting the information. Said anotherway, the ‘speaking notes’ are a memory aid to help you recall what you want to say and the order ofthe information that you are going to present. Please don’t be tempted use your sentence-level speakingoutline as your speaking notes. Using your sentence-level speaking outline may temp you to read theinformation. Please remember are delivering a presentation so that means that you need to present andnot read. If you wish to include your speaking notes in the PowerPoint notes, by all means please doso, but be aware that it is, again, very tempting to read from these notes—you are presenting informationand not reading information. You will work together with your group to develop this sentence-level presentation outline. The groupwill work together specifically on the introduction and the conclusion. However, each person shouldtake the responsibility for one of three problems identified in the Assessment Two Description. It isexpected that all members of the group should contribute equally to the creation of this document. Please acquaint yourself with the following information. There are interactive activities on the Moodlesite that will help you write your sentence-level speaking outline and these will be discussed in theworkshops. In addition to this sentence-level speaking outline structure document, there is a second document onMoodle that contains a fully developed sentence-level outline Please make sure you understand theinformation in both of these documents.Lastly, if you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask.FThis Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-SACRICOS Provider Code: 02219C BUSN20017 ǀ Speaking Outline ǀ Page 2 ǀCollege Business CQUniversity Australia ǀ BUSN20017 EffectiveBusiness CommunicationSentence-Level PresentationOutline Structure PRESENTATION TITLE:Names of group members:General Purpose:Specific Purpose:I.
