Diabetes and its effect among Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islander people
Essay Topic:Diabetes affects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations far more than non-Indigenous populations across all age groups, although Type 1 diabetes is relatively uncommon in the Indigenous population. Diabetes tends to occur at earlier ages among Indigenous adults, with higher rates again for people living in remote areas. It can lead to life threatening health complications and is known to adversely affect pregnant women and their babies
