The first stage of a financial planning process involves the gathering of essential information specific to the client’s personal circumstances. During the interview with the client, it is critical for the financial planner to establish trust, confidence and good rapport with the client. In this regard, interpersonal and good communication skills are important for a successful interview session.
Required task
You are currently employed by APW Wealth Managers, a prominent licensee as a financial planner. This is your first meeting with your client. For the purpose of this exercise, you may choose to interview either client A or B; only one interview is required. Before the meeting, you are provided with a brief background for each client:
Client A
Marital status: Single, female
Age: 23
Yearly income: $68,000 p.a.
Objectives:
- Retire at the age of 60
- To own a child care centre upon retirement
Client B
Marital status: Married, male
Age: 30
Yearly income: $80,000 p.a.
Objectives:
- To set up an education fund for three children
- Retire debt free at the age of 65.
