Requirements
1. Describe the process for calculating the heat loss from a top-floor commercial building with either a concrete or steel frame.
2. Describe the process for calculating the heat gains from a top-floor commercial building with either a concrete or steel frame.
3. Suggest an appropriate solution for ventilating a commercial office in the centre of town. Identify the main considerations before providing your solution.
Coursework advice
Your work will be assessed on how successfully it achieves the above objectives. In particular, you must:
• Present your report to a professional standard;
• Present clear, legible, concise and literate answers, with correct spelling and grammar;
• Provide neat sketches with descriptive labelling to support the arguments. These may be in pencil or produced with a suitable CAD programme, but must be to an acceptable technical standard;
• Use the correct terminology and units;
• Provide innovative and original solutions;
• Present your analysis in your own words, and provide correctly referenced short direct quotations and paraphrases in text as objective evidence;
• Use the Harvard System of referencing. Present the full publication details in a list of references at the end of your report, as usual;
• Acknowledge all sources;
• Avoid the uncritical use of trade advertising literature/language;
• Give all photographs and illustrations a Figure Number and a title.
NB Appendices are NOT required, and will NOT be marked.
