Anti-Naturalist Analysis of Art

Anti-Naturalist Analysis of Art

In lecture over the course of the semester we have seen that anti-naturalists think that human actions and beliefs need to be explained in terms of situated agency, inherited traditions, and narratives. Pick a famous piece of art that is particularly significant to you (this can be a song, poem, painting, or novel). Your task is to be an anti-naturalist social scientist: analyze and explain that work of art in anti-naturalist terms. This will require some extra research to find your work of art and explain the traditions and beliefs that informed the artist.
Conclude by briefly considering how Steven Pinker might respond to your explanation of that work of art. Do you find his critiques persuasive? Why or why not?
